Students will take a fresh approach to their drawings and paintings\, with a focus on observation\, demonstrations\, individualized instruction\, and group critiques. Students will use pencil\, charcoal\, pastel\, watercolors\, and acrylics on canvas to create artwork based on observation from real life\, finding new ways to enjoy the creative process while creating a variety of black and white and color finished artworks. Exploration of other art mediums is integrated into some projects. Students will visit the Michener galleries weekly\, studying the techniques\, images\, and ideas of both practicing and historical artists. This class is a perfect fit for students looking to explore the arts for pleasure\, to enhance and enrich their school art experience\, as well as students interested in building a successful college portfolio. Student artwork is exhibited in the Rising Artists Education Gallery exhibition in March. Projects do not repeat\, and many students enjoy taking this class in the fall\, winter\, and spring for consecutive years. \nProjects are not repeated throughout the year. Most students attend for consecutive seasons\, and many attend for several years. \nFaculty member Jenn Hallgren received her BFA from Wright State University in 2000\, where she majored in Painting and minored in Art History. As an undergraduate student Jenn was awarded numerous merit-based scholarships\, including a full scholarship to study painting and art history at Webster University’s Vienna Campus (Vienna\, Austria)\, to study painting at the Chautauqua Institute (Chautauqua\, NY)\, and to begin her teaching career as an Art History Teaching Assistant at Wright State University (Dayton\, OH). Since graduating\, Jenn has enjoyed numerous teaching opportunities from teaching K-12 students at K12 Gallery for Young People\, teaching graphic design courses to college students at Norwalk Community College\, teaching senior citizens to paint at the Philadelphia Senior Art Camp\, and teaching a wide range of fun-loving folks to paint at Painting with a Twist. She began teaching Saturday art classes at the Michener in 2019\, and continues her full-time art career in the form of drawing\, painting\, and mixed media. \n

Their vibe is party\, reunion\, and catharsis in one – the energy of their tunes is hard to miss\, but each song carries the weight of humanity’s dark corners. Taking inspiration from past and present\, Scott Wolfson and Other Heroes take a folk rock canvas and weave in big helpings of Broadway\, Jazz\, Blues\, and Country\, giving them a sound both familiar and unique\, distinctly American\, and yet part of a broader world. As much as fans love Scott’s songwriting for lifting up the lives of the unsung\, newcomers are often surprised by the range and tight musicianship of the band. \nMusic at the Michener is presented by NJM Insurance Group \n \nFriday Night Band Jam is generously supported by Jeanette Griffith and David Kapturowski. \n
