Instructor: Jody Holbert
The Michener prides itself in its collection of Pennsylvania Impressionist landscape paintings created by master artists including Daniel Garber, Fern Coppedge, and Edward Redfield. In this class, adults of all abilities will learn how these artists used light, atmospheric perspective, color, texture, detail, and composition to depict the local landscape. Students will receive guided instruction while sketching in the galleries, and working in the studio and en plein air, weather permitting. Students will create a series of landscapes using graphite, pastels, and acrylic and watercolor paint. Special Exhibition Focus: Patricia D. Pfundt Sculpture Garden and the Labyrinth
Informal, informative, and inspiring hands-on art classes with changing themes provide a unique focus for adult learners of all ages and abilities to engage in Museum-based art education and creative exploration. Permanent collections balanced with changing exhibitions provide ongoing opportunities for looking at and learning about a variety of artists, art forms, and processes. Opportunities for individualized instruction, observation, practice, experimentation, and the development of a personal style are at the core of all of our adult art classes. Instructional projects vary throughout the year; most students attend for consecutive sessions. Adult students may choose to exhibit their work in the Education Gallery in June. Faculty Member Jody Holbert
received a BS in Art Education from Penn State University and has extensive graduate level experience at the University of the Arts, Kutztown University, St. Joseph’s University, and Gratz College. She has taught drawing, painting, printmaking, computer arts, textile design, ceramics, and glass throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Jody brings her expertise, passion and vision to the Michener Art Museum’s adult art classes. One student noted, “This is the best art class I have ever had. There is the perfect balance of content, formal instruction, and time to work. Instructor feedback is excellent.”
