Unplugged Sundays @ the Michener
Caryn Lin, Electric Violinist
The Science of Sound
1:00 - 3:00 pm
Advanced registration is required.
"Unlike the music defined by pure genre, Lin's only limits are those of her electric violin." New York Post
Caryn Lin is a classically trained violinist who became an electric violinist and music innovator. At a recent performance, she jokingly described her piece as "Native American, West African, techno-tribal, Australian, cosmic, Celtic, dance, rock, Egyptian." Years of concentrated experimentation with sound results in a live show that is the musical equivalent of light traveling through a prism – it is spectacular! Caryn plays four, five, and six string electric violins, using looping techniques to create short, on-the-spot recordings of her voice, percussion instruments, and other sounds. The sound is transformed through her violins and modern technology; 3-D sound waves become visible, and her music literally comes to life before your eyes and ears!
Caryn has played everywhere from Lincoln Center to Six Flags; the Kimmel Center to the Crayola Factory; an 800th anniversary of a monastery in the French Alps to thousands of kids in school auditoriums. Her music has been featured on MTV's "The Real World," and on 150 international radio stations including Sirius/XM satellite. She appeared performing in the movie Philadelphia. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to see Caryn perform at the Michener!
