Student artists will learn techniques, develop skills, and cultivate the creativity that is at the cornerstone of growth in the arts. Students will take a fresh approach to their drawings and paintings, with a focus on observation, demonstrations, individualized instruction, and group critiques. Students will use graphite, pastel, watercolors, and acrylics to create works based on observation from real life, finding new ways to enjoy the creative process while creating a variety of finished artworks. This class is a perfect fit for students looking to explore the arts for pleasure, as well as students interested in building a successful college portfolio. Student work will be exhibited in the Rising Artists exhibition, which opens March 3.
All of our students explore the Michener galleries weekly, and use works in the exhibitions as take-off points for their own art making. They also work from photographs, observation, and imagination, and glean inspiration from famous artists throughout history.
Michener classes keep Art at the Heart of Education with individualized attention, small classes, frequent gallery tours, and master teachers as hallmarks of the exceptional arts programs. Through exposure to a variety of art forms and art materials, all courses encourage the development of new skills and build confidence in creative expression. The Michener’s permanent collections balanced with changing exhibitions provide ongoing opportunities for looking at and learning about a variety of art forms in new ways. Student work is exhibited in the Education Gallery throughout the year.
