This camp is a wonderful introduction to machine sewing. Students will create an assortment of projects, learn and enhance machine sewing skills, while being introduced this wonderful medium. Students of all abilities are welcome; beginner students will enjoy learning new skills, and returning students will build on skills. Students planning on taking Fashion Design and Sewing will be able to use skills learned here.
Students provide their own peanut free lunch for full day and snacks for half-day programs. Families and friends are welcome to come 15 minutes before the end of camp on Friday to enjoy an exhibition of student work in the Education Gallery and classrooms.
Individualized attention, inspired and supportive instruction, small classes, meaningful gallery tours, and award-winning teachers are hallmarks of our exceptional arts programs. Through exposure to a variety of art forms and materials, all courses encourage the development of new skills and build confidence in creative expression. In addition, our summer camps provide opportunities for lively social interaction and outdoor activities. Student work is exhibited in the Education Gallery throughout the summer.
Adjunct Faculty member Erin Casey (formerly Erin McInerney) received a BS in Art Education from Saint Joseph’s University in 2007 and a Masters of Education at Cabrini College in 2013. As an undergraduate student she studied art in Rome, Italy. After graduating she taught with the Big Picture Program for Philadelphia Mural Arts, assisting in creating the largest mural in Philadelphia. She is currently an elementary art teacher at Simon Butler Elementary in the Central Bucks School District. She began teaching Saturday art classes at the Michener in 2014. In the summer, Erin teaches a variety of classes at the Michener. Erin continues to create art independently in the form of painting, stained glass and jewelry making.
Arts Education Manager Andrea Thompson is an Honors graduate from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia. We feel truly blessed to have her as a teacher.”
