At the centenary year of the birth of American composer and musician George Rochberg (1918-2005), Peterson will reflect on the creative influence of two significant “father” figures: Rochberg, a profound creative figure, and James A. Peterson, a geologist, paleontologist, and Peterson’s biological father. Using readings from his two books The Smile At the Heart of Things (2009) and The Blossoming of the World (2011) and assisted by his wife Helen Mirkil, a painter and poet in her own right, Peterson will detail his last encounters with both “fathers” and their profound impact on his creative process.
This lecture is one of a three-part series.
