Instructor: Jody Holbert

This three-hour class provides the perfect opportunity for adult artists with a basic understanding of drawing and color mixing to work in a supportive and creative atmosphere on works of their choosing. Individualized, informative instruction will help students develop new skills, gain insights into their creative accomplishments, receive meaningful guidance and feedback, become comfortable with the creative process, and grow at every level. Students also work closely alongside fellow artists to further their inspiration and excitement about their work. Students may work in watercolor, oil and chalk pastel, pencil, ink, charcoal, and acrylics; due to inadequate ventilation, we cannot invite students who work in oil. Students in this class will have access to all Museum exhibitions to glean inspiration and further their understanding of various arts forms and processes.

Informal, informative, and inspiring hands-on art classes with changing themes provide a unique focus for adult learners of all ages and abilities to engage in Museum-based art education and creative exploration. Permanent collections balanced with changing exhibitions provide ongoing opportunities for looking at and learning about a variety of artists, art forms, and processes. Opportunities for individualized instruction, observation, practice, experimentation, and the development of a personal style are at the core of all of our adult art classes. Instructional projects vary throughout the year; most students attend for consecutive sessions. Adult students may choose to exhibit their work in the Education Gallery in June.

Faculty Member Jody Holbert received a BS in Art Education from Penn State University and has extensive graduate level experience at the University of the Arts, Kutztown University, St. Joseph’s University, and Gratz College. There is the perfect balance of content, formal instruction, and time to work. Instructor feedback is excellent.”
