This class is the perfect opportunity for adults of all abilities to “break out of the box” while combining drawing, painting, printmaking, and collage to create realistic and abstract works of art. Guided instruction and new discoveries will inspire student work in a variety of arts media and processes including monoprints, linocuts, found photography, papers, fabrics, and more.

Informal, informative, and inspiring hands-on art classes with changing themes provide a unique focus for adult learners of all ages and abilities to engage in Museum-based art education and creative exploration. Permanent collections balanced with changing exhibitions provide ongoing opportunities for looking at and learning about a variety of artists, art forms, and processes. Opportunities for individualized instruction, observation, practice, experimentation, and the development of a personal style are at the core of all of our adult art classes. Instructional projects vary throughout the year; most students attend for consecutive sessions. Adults who participated in our art classes last year will bring new insights and find new challenges in this year’s series of programs.

Faculty Member Jody Holbert received a BS in Art Education from Penn State University and has extensive graduate level experience at the University of the Arts, Kutztown University, St. Joseph’s University, and Gratz College. She has taught drawing, painting, printmaking, computer arts, textile design, ceramics, and glass throughout Bucks and Montgomery Counties. Jody brings her expertise, passion and vision to the Michener Art Museum’s adult art classes. One student noted, “This is the best art class I have ever had. There is the perfect balance of content, formal instruction, and time to work. Instructor feedback is excellent.”
