Use your love for color and design while creating art on fabric. Create banners, scarves, t-shirts, and more while painting on silk, learning tie-dye, shibori, batik, embroidery, and other textile arts forms. Students who took Fabric Arts last summer will have an entirely new experience while working with fabric in 2019. Please bring a white cotton pre-washed t-shirt on the first day of class.

Students provide their own peanut free lunch for full day and snacks for half-day programs. Families and friends are welcome to come 15 minutes before the end of class on Friday to enjoy an exhibition of student work in the Education Gallery and classrooms.

Students entering grades 4 through 9 in fall 2019 are invited to register for this class.

Need a full day program? Students may combine the morning Drawing and Painting Workshop with the afternoon Fabric Design class, and Lunch Option 4.

Individualized attention, inspired and supportive instruction, small classes, meaningful gallery tours, and award-winning teachers are hallmarks of our exceptional arts programs. Through exposure to a variety of art forms and materials, all courses encourage the development of new skills and build confidence in creative expression. In addition, our summer camps provide opportunities for lively social interaction and outdoor activities. Student work is exhibited in the Education Gallery throughout the summer.

Faculty member Cara Alderfer graduated from Millersville University with a BSE in Art and has her MAEd in Fine Art Metals from Arcadia University. She has worked in the Central Bucks School District since 2003, at Barclay, Gayman, Groveland, Buckingham, Titus, Bridge Valley and Warwick Elementary Schools. She has a strong background in musical theater, performing arts and vocal performance. Mrs. Alderfer began as a Michener adjunct faculty member in 2006. “My daughter has taken Cara’s summer drawing classes for several consecutive years. Every summer, there are new projects, new challenges, and new friends. Her approach is inventive and fun, and every year my daughter learns so much more about art.”
