Instructor: Stephanie Bacskai

Students explore Michener galleries weekly, and use works in the exhibitions as take-off points for their own art making; they also work from photographs, observation, and imagination. Students will use pencil, charcoal, oil and chalk pastels, acrylic and watercolor paints, and an array of sculpture materials including air-dry clay and plaster-craft in this program.

Faculty member Stephanie Bacskai is a Cum Laude graduate from The College of New Jersey earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a Masters in the Art of Teaching for Elementary Education. Stephanie has studied typography, printmaking, illustration and graphic design at the American Intercontinental University in London. Stephanie is a highly experienced Enrichment and Gifted & Talented educator, specializing in the area of S.T.E.M. and SustaInability. She has created curriculum and community projects empowering her students to be local and global leaders as a Green Flag USA Eco-School. Stephanie’s innovative lessons have spanned visual and dramatic storytelling projects to large-scale constructions, such as painting rain barrel events, and designing and installing a garden solar oven and a spiraling aquaponics unit at her school.

Stephanie’s educational work has been recognized with the National Wildlife Federation, the Alliance for New Jersey Environmental Education, New Jersey Sustainable Schools and the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C.

Stephanie is a conceptual artist who has a passion for mixed media collage, sculpture, and photography. She is inspired by the form and function of the natural world. Stephanie is excited to share her love for authenticity and collaboration at the Michener. She is currently in her thirteenth year as an educator at Holland Township School in Milford, New Jersey.
