Instructor: Megan Miller

Explore working in black and white while drawing, painting, and printmaking with pen and ink, brush and ink, acrylics, charcoal, graphite, pencil, linocut, and silkscreen. Focus will be on observation, shading, composition, texture, and contrast as students develop an understanding of the power of black and white images and the ability to incorporate photographs in their artwork. Please bring a cell phone with camera capabilities to camp, if you have one.

Students provide their own peanut free lunch for full day and snacks for half-day programs. Families and friends are welcome to come 15 minutes before the end of camp on Friday to enjoy an exhibition of student work in the Education Gallery and classrooms.

Need a full day program? Students may combine the morning Comic Book Creation camp with the afternoon Art in Black and White camp, and Lunch Option 2.

Individualized attention, inspired and supportive instruction, small classes, meaningful gallery tours, and award-winning teachers are hallmarks of our exceptional arts programs. Through exposure to a variety of art forms and materials, all courses encourage the development of new skills and build confidence in creative expression. In addition, our summer camps provide opportunities for lively social interaction and outdoor activities. Student work is exhibited in the Education Gallery throughout the summer.

Faculty member Megan Miller has a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education from Kutztown University, as well as a Masters of Education from Concordia University. She has worked with the Michener since 2006, first as a college intern, then as a teaching assistant, and currently as an adjunct staff member. She teaches a variety of classes during the summer including Fabulous Fives, All About Art, and Drawing and Painting. She is also an art teacher in the Pennsbury School District, teaching at the middle school level. Her large-scale paintings are inspired by nature; she works primarily in oils and watercolors.
