Make a rainbow connection! Students will explore many different ways to use color in their own works of art while drawing with both chalk and oil pastels, painting with acrylics and watercolors, mixing colors, and learning new painting techniques. Inspiration will come from the Michener collection, special exhibitions, photographs, personal experience, and the imagination.
The Michener Art Museum offers the only art classes in Bucks County where learners of all ages experience Museum exhibitions as an ongoing part of their arts education. Discussions and experiences in the galleries and sculpture garden inspire students to create original works of art in response to what they see. Individualized attention, small classes, and master teachers are hallmarks of exceptional programs that combine learning new skills with opportunities for creative expression and the development of a personal style. Students work in an environment rooted in inspired and supportive instruction, meaningful gallery experiences, personal observation, and imagination. Student work is exhibited in the Education Gallery throughout the year. All art classes at the Michener keep art at the heart of education.
Students provide their own peanut free lunch for full day and snacks for half-day programs. Families and friends are welcome to come 15 minutes before the end of class every Friday to enjoy an exhibition of student work in the Education Gallery and classrooms.
Faculty member Erin Casey received a BS in Art Education from Saint Joseph’s University in 2007 and a Masters of Education at Cabrini College in 2013. As an undergraduate student she studied art in Rome, Italy. After graduating she taught with the Big Picture Program for Philadelphia Mural Arts, assisting in creating the largest mural in Philadelphia. She is currently an elementary art teacher at Groveland and Simon Butler Elementary, in the Central Bucks School District. She runs a Michener Arts Enrichment mosaic class at Butler Elementary, and she began teaching Saturday art classes at the Michener in 2014. In the summer, Erin teaches a variety of classes at the Michener. Erin continues to create art independently in the form of painting, stained glass, and jewelry making.
