James Michener’s life is a model of community service, and his legacy lives on in all the teen service opportunities available at the Michener Art Museum. Volunteering at the Michener is an excellent way for middle and high school students to learn about art, art education, and museum life, while adding valuable community service experience to National Junior Honor Society, National Honor Society, and college applications.
“Character consists of what you do on the third and fourth tries.”
— James Michener
Counselors in Training work with Michener summer camp staff, at Education Gallery receptions, and youth and family workshops throughout the school year. They gain unique experience working with children ages 3-18 in an arts classroom setting.
In the Art Talk: Video, students in grades 5 – 12 will work with their peers to create, develop, write, and record original content for the Michener Art Museum’s Youth Tours and YouTube channel. Students will go behind the scenes with Michener staff to learn about the vault, the archives, the library, gallery technology, and the exhibitions.
