The James A. Michener Art Museum Library supports the museum’s mission to collect, preserve, interpret, and exhibit American art with a focus on art of the Bucks County region. A resource for research, general information, and educational materials on American art, with a focus on the arts of Bucks County of all creative disciplines and on the Michener Art Museum, the Library and Archives serves the research needs of the museum’s staff and volunteers as well as outside scholars and other persons demonstrating a need to consult its collections for research purposes.
The nucleus of the Library’s holdings focuses on the following subjects: Bucks County artists of all disciplines (visual, literary, performing arts); and American art with an emphasis on American painting, prints, drawings, photography, sculpture, decorative arts, design, and architecture.
The Library maintains reference files on more than 1,500 regional artists of all creative
disciplines. Ephemeral material in the form of news clippings, articles, photographs, and
pamphlets are stored in vertical files where appropriate.
The Library holdings are non-circulating and for reference only. The Library is accessible by appointment for outside patrons and museum members demonstrating a need to consult its collections for research purposes. Museum staff and docents do not need appointments to have access to the collections (except the rare book collection) during normal Library hours.
