IV. Works for publisher, George Barrie, 1892-1893
The biggest single commission for his paintings that Trego ever received
was his work for Philadelphia publisher, George Barrie and Son, in
1892-93. Barrie was publishing a monumental book,
The Army and Navy of the United States,
and solicited illustrations from more than a dozen artists. The
paintings were reproduced as photogravures, some of which were hand
tinted. While the job brought Trego much needed income, it did nothing
to advance his career since none of the works was ever exhibited
publicly or critically reviewed.
