Commentary

When Harry S. Krieble, a businessman of North Wales, decided to have Trego paint his portrait in 1901, he was either too busy to pose or not inclined to sit still that long. The artist arranged to have a series of photographs taken of his client in his studio, then chose this particular pose as the basis for the portrait.

In the background can be seen Trego's portrait of his father, Jonathan, sitting on the floor in the corner of the room.
