The Story, 1883

Vital Statistics

Oil on canvas, Dimensions unknown

Commentary

While on view at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1883--the same exhibit that included Trego's March to Valley Forge--the painting was offered for sale at $200. It did not sell, however, and was shown in New York the following January. A January 1884 New York Times article describes the painting as “an interior with two soldiers.” The work is presumed lost.
