Commentary

This lost painting is known from two sources. An article about Trego in Philadelphia’s daily North American, 24 November 1901, included a drawing of the painting captioned “To the Front,” suggesting it was in his studio at the time of the interview that led to the article. A poor quality black-and-white photograph of the painting, on Trego’s easel, was found in the Trego file in the library of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
