Commentary
This
lost painting is known from two sources. An article about Trego in Philadelphia’s daily
North American, 24 November 1901,
included a drawing of the painting captioned
“To the Front,” suggesting it was in his studio at the time of the
interview that led to the article. A poor quality black-and-white photograph of
the painting, on Trego’s easel, was found in the Trego file in the library of
the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.
