Commentary
The thirty artillerymen and officers in this study could be
gathering to participate in a roll call or about to receive a military briefing. It is likely a
study for an otherwise unknown work. It is noteworthy for the lack of
dynamic activity that Trego preferred, especially when portraying
artillery subjects. It is possible that the image was intended as an
illustration.
Provenance
Owned by Pittsburgh art dealer, Harry O.
Eichleay as early as the mid 1960s at which time Eichleay gave the work to his nephew's wife, who
ultimately passed the work to her son, the current owner.
Condition
The painting is in good condition.
